MSIAC Quantity Distance Consequence Analysis Tool (MQDCAT)

NATO Explosives Safety and Munitions Risk Management (ESMRM) policy prescribes a risk analysis when Quantity Distances (QD) cannot be met. The most elaborate part of a risk analysis is a consequence analysis which results in a prediction of damage, fatalities and injuries.

The ammunition safety and the logistics communities have a need for consequence analysis that is consistent with the revised approach to QD in AASTP-1. The objective of the MSIAC QD Consequence Analysis Tool (MQDCAT) is to perform an experimentally validated consequence analysis of the initiation of various types and quantities of munitions in various types of magazines, and with possible mitigation measures in place. MQDCAT is consistent with the QD in the next version of AASTP-1 (EdC V1) for all Hazard Divisions (HD) and over the full range of Net Explosive Quantities (NEQ). MQDCAT gives insight into the consequences that are to be expected when QD cannot be met, and provides input for both qualitative and quantitative risk analysis
